Fancy Dress for Superhero Movies of the 80s
The eighties is not a bad decade for Superhero Costumes as there are quite a few iconic Superhero movies.
When you ask someone to name a superhero many will instantly say Superman. The first Superman film came out in 1978 but with Superman 2, and Superman 3 both being massive hits in 1981 and 83 starring Christopher Reeve, a Superman dress up costume very much fits with 80 s film costumes.
Carrying on from Superman came the Super girl movie spin off staring Helen Slater as Supergirl. There are not as many women superhero as Men superheros and so Supergirl is a great 80s film character fancy dress costume for women.
The Batman Movie directed by Tim Burton stared Michael Keaton as Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker. There are quite a few different style Batman fancy dress costumes to choose but the best one for 80s film characters fancy dress is the all black version. Joker was the main villain in the 1980s Batman movie. So if you fancy being a bad lad for the night go for the Jokers purple suit fancydress costume.
For the women wanting a Batman theme fancy dress costume there is a few choices. Go in a Batgirl dress up costume, a sexy Catwomen outfit or in a Bat girl vest top and cape.
There a few more 80s movie characters which I have classed as super hero's even though strictly speaking they are not. To start the 1980 Flash Gordon movie staring Sam J. Jones as Flash was a big hit and the sound track coming from Freddie Mercury and Queen made it even better. Popeye was a favorite cartoon for me and was like a superhero once he got his spinach down him. In the eighties Popeye the movie was released and starred robin Williams as Popeye and Shelley Duvall as Olive Oil. Popeye and Olive are the ideal couples fancy dress idea too.
80 s Dress up Film Characters
The character Indiana Jones has been well known since he was first seen on the big screen in the 80 s movies "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "The Temple Of Doom", and "The Last Crusade". The Indiana costume could be put together yourself, you really just need a leather jacket, Fedora or trilby hat and a bull whip . There is though a good full costume which comes at a good price too.
Two American films from the eighties which always come to mind are "An Officer and a Gentlemen" and "Top gun". There are a few fancy dress versions of the officer and gentleman style white officers uniform but at the time of writing this article our fav is the "Funshack" version. Topgun staring Tom Cruise as Maverick going through the Topgun flying school with the other film characters "Goose" and the "IceMan" is a favorite for women as well as men as an 80s film costumes idea. As well as a mens fancy dress version of the Top gun flying suit there is also a catsuit style version for the women. New for 2012 is the Topgun vaux leather flying jacket too.

80s Horror Movie Fancy Dress
Horror movie fancy dress is usually kept for Halloween costume parties but we can fit horror movies into 80s Movie theme events can't we! The Child's Play film was about a murdering doll called Chucky. The Chucky Doll is an instantly recognizable fancydress outfit. It also makes sense as a costume if you are on a budget as it can then be used again at the Halloween party.
An "American werewolf in London" fancy dress outfit is easy to put together yourself. Its basically normal clothing and then getting hairy hand gloves and a werewolf mask. There are some great make-up kits , werewolf wigs and facial hair too if you want to go for a more realistic effect.
Friday the 13th released in 1980 was a very scary horror film of the 80s. There are costumes available for the main character Jason but again an easy one to achieve with the fancydress accessories of a Jason Hockey mask and knife.
80 s TV Characters Fancy Dress
80 s TV characters are a plenty for fancydress ideas. Here are a few but I have to admit a lot are from 80s cartoons but never the less they were still tv characters. Hanna barbera were the tops for creating cartoon characters in the 70s and 1980s. Fancy dress costumes which are among my favorites are HongKong Phooey, Captain Caveman and Scooby Doo. It wasn't just the Americans who had good cartoons and for a fancy dress superhero costume you can't go wrong with a Banaman outfit.
One TV character that can't be missed from my list is the A Teams B.A. Baracus played by Mr T. The Mr T fancydress costume is awesome value with it's bling and Mohawk wig included.
