The eighties, like the 60's and 70's decades, pop and rock star fancy dress are often a popular first choice for 80 s fancy dress costumes. This is true for both men and women . There was a wide range of pop and rock genres in the 80's from Punk and New Romantic to Rap and Hip hop.

Early 80's Punk Fancy Dress

The eighties started with the 80's punk rockers still around. Punk rocker costumes can be easily be made up using your own clothing with fancy dress punk accessories or there are a few good punk costumes to buy. Put Together a Home Made New Romantic Fancy Dress Costume

A London club called the Blitz started a fresh fashion and pop music movement in the early 1980s called 'New Romantic'.

Men wore eyeliner, lipstick and eyeshadow. Both sexes would wear androgynous clothing or would dress that of the opposite sex. So we have the base costume now time to give it that extra New Romantic outfit umph. Accessorize with a silk scarf tied round your waist or tucked into a belt, find your gran's brooches to wear on shirt. Madonna 80s Fancy Dress

When our women customers come to the shop and need 80 s fancy dress ideas the one that often comes up are Madonna 80s costumes. It's hardly surprising as Madonna was everywhere in the eighties. Not only did she have her amazing pop career, she also appeared in movies the most iconic being "Desperately seeking Susan". During this time she created the look for the young women of the 80s.

Madonna started a layered look. A shirt worn under another lace shirt or a sweatshirt with large neck so that the one shoulder was seen. Even a cropped jacket worn over a basque.

80s Rocker Costumes and Rappers

So we have covered, possibly, most iconic 80s music styles but of course the eighties did have other popular styles of music too. Rock bands were still going strong but had come away from the glam look of the 70s. 80s rockers like Bon Jovi and Guns N Roses wore tight leggings or jeans with T shirts or vest and leather or denim jackets. Like a lot of people in the 80s they also had "big hair".
