Mens 1960s Fashion
Fancydress parties with a 1960 s theme are very popular, the good news is there is a large choice of costumes available to you.
The young man of the sixties wanted his own style and identity so no longer wore clothes like his father.
The Mods and Rockers
Rockers liked the 1950s rock and roll scene and wore jeans with black leather jackets and greased back their hair. However it was the Modernists of Britain who paved the way for fashion in the early to mid 60 s. Austin Powers Style
Later on from about 1966 the Edwardian style was adopted. Men wore double breasted suits made from crushed velvet and frilled collar shirts. Austin Powers from the 1990s film which was set in the 1960s typifies this 60s 'dandified' style.
Bowl cut to Sgt Pepper
Bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones played a large part in progressing the fashion of the time. The Beatles started with their clean cut bowl hairstyle and sharp high collar suits, then onto the famous brightly coloured Sgt Pepper uniforms finishing with a hippie style of bell-bottom trousers or flared jeans.
Hippies
The late sixties saw the Hippie movement. Hippys wore their hair long with a headband or flowers, loose tee-shirts often tie-dyed, suede leather fringed waistcoats and bell bottom hipster jeans. Footwear would be sandals, plimsolls or quite often just bare foot.
